Mike Lroy the mural artist!!!

This past couple of weeks I have had Mike Lroy joining me and my art classes at Westside Elementary School! He is leading us as we paint a mural of UNITY at my school. Faith Ringgold.

Last week’s artist I taught about was Faith Ringgold. She taught that you can fly!  “Anyone can fly. All you need is somewhere to go that you can’t get to any other way.  The next thing you know, you are flying among the stars.” -Faith R.

Alma Thomas.

I really enjoyed teaching about Alma Thomas to my students this week!  Her art and life speak to me a bit.  She comes from 4 sisters, I have 4 daughters, she was an art teacher (and kindergarten teacher) for 35 years, I am an Art Teacher, When she retired she became a full time artist, me too....well not yet...but that is my plan!  Now if only she played and coached soccer that would take the cake:)

Inspired.

I now have a new favorite poem.  I was truly inspired by Gorman’s poem...”The Hill We Climb”.  We face much...so let’s face it!

Beanert the bird feeder.

Our dog Beanert apparently eats birds.  I learned that today!  My youngest daughters walk the pup every morning before school and they weren’t really paying close attention, so when they looked down at Beanert they noticed that he was eating a bird!  I learned a whole new meaning of what a bird feeder is:) So naturally I sketched it out.

Backyard.

Saw this little guy in my backyard today after school as I was sipping a cup of tea. Grabbed my iPad and doodled him out....next thing you know three of his friends showed up.  They probably wanted a free sketch as well....but I didn’t have all day;).

2021 is here!  Even though there is daylight for our future, don’t ever forget where you have come from.  Life is a story...enjoy it all.  Happy New Year!  

Coffee....good.

Ever wonder what Mr. Coffee actually looked like?  Well, this year we hosted a carefully planned out Cleveland Family Christmas get together, especially since we are in a pandemic that calls for quarantining.  And my coffee maker was way to slow for the crew we had.  So I told everyone not to worry, I know how to fix it...so as I was fixing it, a shiny brand new state of the art coffee maker showed up out of nowhere!!! I then became at that moment....Mr. Coffee!  Thanks for the gift family!  

Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all of you out there!  I’m just sitting around my house with my whole family enjoying just that....my family!!!  So of course I doodled out the cause of it all...JESUS;) Take care.

2 POPS.

2 Pops (papa). Served as a “Grill” Sergeant in the armed forces in the 40’s. Worked in the kitchen. No food...no soldier. He had some stories!  Thanks to all the Veterans out there no matter what role they served. THEY SERVED! #veteransday

Election Day 2020.

Quarantine Soccer.

We managed to have a soccer season during this crazy pandemic.  The kids absolutely needed and loved it! We put the priority of doing what we love in front.....as long as it was safe and healthy.  Which in the end absolutely was.  I love the idea of  “do...or...do not”...nothing just floating in the middle.  Go for it, or don't, it is all good.  Just respect others around you fully.  Peace in all you do!

Bring on year 8!

My Dad...the original Bibleman, Superhero in my eyes, Father, Grandpa, Minister, Servant (holy cow was he a servant), Loyal Hubs to my Mom, Teacher, Leader, Student, Son, Brother, Friend, Shepard, Counselor, Director,  Coach (undefeated on soccer Saturday), Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Preacher, Advisor, Listener, Good Human...whatever you need, he could be that, he was never too good to be what you need...humble...my Daddy.  I was watching and taking it in when you were here.  I have learned from you. Miss you. Bring on year 8 (Covid and all)!

Gale Sayers.

Gale Sayers was a great running back in my opinion, he passed away this week and left an impression.  He had “God Given Talent” in his own words.  Got me thinking, we all got “God Given Talent”!  Just look...and then feel it! He scored 6 TDs in one game (NFL record). He said everyone around him was slipping all over the place...he wasn’t. God kept his footing in my opinion.  What keeps your footing?

Ahhhhh.

During this pandemic thing you really need to stop for a second each day and find your inner peace. It can be found anywhere if you look.

Judy.

Judy Truitt’s first day in Heaven probably went down like this!  She was a wonderful person who was always around...she was my “other mother”. Everybody that knew her ate around her table.  She has now taken that table to new heights.

Happy Birthday to Thad the Physicist!  I hope you had some GREAT ideas today!  The world needs more great ideas.  Then comes the action!  And thanks for teaching me the word...tergiflexuous...or something like that....:)  I cannot get it out of my head.

Baby T-Rex.

Our friends just had their first baby....they named it Baby T-Rex!!!  Love it!  Congrats to them.  

Ducky Lake.

The other day we went to Devil’s Lake.  We turned it into Ducky Lake.  Our huge duck floaty we were using took off on us in the wind and we couldn’t for the life of us swim fast enough to catch it.  That is until one of youngest daughters hopped onto a huge pineapple floaty and caught it!  She was a true hero that day.  We love Ducky Lake!

The Frog Princess.

My oldest daughter has a unique job every week at our house...she saves frog’s lives.  We have a window well going down to our basement, and it is frog season right now.  They love to jump down there and get stuck (until they croak).  Out of the goodness of her heart and love for God’s creation she jumps down there and saves them. In the last two weeks she has saved at least 20-30 frogs!  What do you do out of the goodness of your heart?!  She is a true hero/princess!!!
